Since 2015, the Lao Foundation has opened many opportunities for deserving young men enrolled at Dualtech Center by giving them financial aid to finish the two- year Electromechanics Technology program. Through Lao Foundation- Dualtech scholarship program, it has helped 31 graduates and 39 trainees from Batch 1 and 2. Towards the start of the 3rd quarter of 2018, they continued their advocacy by helping 3rd and 4th batches, 20 and 24 scholars respectively.

Fourteen days before Christmas, nine Dualtech scholars of Marubeni Foundation, Inc (MSFI) attended its 29th Annual Scholars’ Night. Throughout the years, Marubeni invites its scholars, past and present, together with the Board of Trustees and Officers of MSFI, Marubeni Philippines Corporation and representatives of beneficiary schools in its annual gathering to listen to the testimonies of success and gratitude.

How the Scholars of Lao Foundation are contributing to the enrichment of their community

Unlike most students their age, Leo and Isaiah have already mapped a vision of the future in their heads.

Leo Samarita knew at a very young age that he was destined to become a breadwinner. The eldest son of a sari-sari store owner and a canvasser, Leo has taken to delivering fresh vegetables to the market at the crack of dawn, peddling balut until the late hours of the evening, all while attending classes in the hours between. His weekends are a routine of odd jobs and errands to make ends meet. Leo’s empty hours on the weekends are spent writing homework and studying for exams, and he keeps only a couple of hours for sleep before rising to another day of back-breaking work and rigorous study.

As part of the vision to contribute in alleviating poverty across all regions of the Philippines, Dualtech Center, through the effort of the Community Relations Office and Partners and Programs Office, welcomed about 30 coordinators from Bohol, Cebu, and Davao last November 8-10, 2018.

Participants, majority of whom are affiliated with the Department of Education, had undergone Dualtech 101, a seminar- workshop and immersion specially designed to introduce Dualtech Center and its adopted dual- training system, life skills and work values for Visayas and Mindanao community representatives.

Artesyn Embedded Technologies, one of the world’s largest and most successful power supply companies welcomed Dualtech and its guests for a company tour which highlighted the partnership with Dualtech Center for a decade.

“About 20% of our internal hiring- or source of hiring- comes from Dualtech,” Ms. Lorna Godoy, Human Resource Head shared. “They [trainees] are not only good technically, but they also have the right attitude that they have imbibed the Artesyn culture in a very quick and efficient manner.”

Being one of the largest distributors of forklift and warehouse trucks, Handling Innovation, which offers transport, racking and storage picking solutions in manufacturing and commercial industry has for its bread-and-butter the quality of its team of technicians. Throughout the years, the management has tried many schools in the hope of finding the best employees that could fit in with their culture. They worked with several engineers and technologists that could smoothly identify why a certain unit has not been running for hours, follow a wiring diagram, and draw out improvement suggestions for a more efficient process and production output.
